Tracking children

How many children do we need to track?

• You should aim to track at least six children across your setting from different age ranges if you are using the programme as a whole setting approach, or six three and four-year-olds if you are a pre-school only setting.  You may want to include a mixture of boys and girls, children with SEND, children who attend AM or PM only, children who receive 15 hours or 30 hours funding etc. The aim is to critically evaluate the impact of any changes you make on children's mathematical development in relation to their starting points.

What system do we need to use to track children? Do we need to use the tracker in the programme?  

• You can use any system you feel comfortable with, or are currently using in your setting. The aim is to evaluate the impact that the programme has had on children’s learning and development. We have provided a maths focussed template you can use to track children’s progress but this is not compulsory. 

When do we need to track children?  

• Initially at the beginning of the programme and then again towards the end of the programme to evaluate the impact – steps are shown on the Development Zone. If you are a term time only setting you would be best to organise this around your cohort of children and term times.

I have forgotten some of my log in details what do I do?

• Follow the instructions on the Development Zone or contact moderator@ndna.org.uk

How do I upload documents onto the areas required on the Development Zone?

1. Save your evidence or the document you wish to upload in a convenient place (e.g. your desktop).
2. Go onto the relevant step of the Maths Champions programme, click onto the upload link and follow the instructions on the page.  When it asks to browse for the document, search the area you have saved it (e.g. the desktop) and select this file.

 

Audits

Who needs to complete the audits?

• The learning environment audit should be completed by the Maths Champion with the support of the Deputy Maths Champion.
• The staff confidence audits can be carried out by the Maths Champion or Deputy Maths Champion as a 1-1 with all staff or room leaders can be supported to carry these out with staff in individual rooms.  Alternatively, all individual staff can be given a copy to complete for themselves. The aim is for staff to be as open and honest as possible so then this can be used as an opportunity to provide tailored support and development where needed. 

How many audits do I need to do?

• The learning environment audit can either be completed for your whole setting (so there will only be one) or you can break this down and complete an audit for specific rooms or areas such as outdoors. 
• The staff confidence audit should be completed by the Maths Champion, Deputy Maths Champion and every member of staff who works directly with children, so this will depend on your setting.

How do I upload the audits?

1. Firstly you will need to download the question templates to complete.
2. Responses can then be added to the summary sheet found in Step 5 of the programme. 
3. Once you have your completed summary go back to Step 5 of the Maths Champions programme and return to the audit section. Under each tool there is a submission area for you to upload the summary sheet. 

Do the team need to upload their audits using their own accounts?

• No, all audits need to be added to the summary sheet and uploaded via the Maths Champion’s account.

Resource bank

Why can’t I get in to see the resources?

• You will receive access to the resources section of the programme once you have completed and uploaded your audits and action plans and downloaded the core activities for three and four-year-olds in Step 7 of the programme. The resources section will then be available on the main page of the programme to the right hand side. 

Can the team use my log in details to access the resource bank?

• Yes, if you are happy with this. They will not be able to access the resource bank via their own personal account so if you wish them to look through the resource section you will need to do this through your Champion account.
